J'ai acheté cet ouvrage sur Amazon UK (£32.50 + frais de port) où la présentation de ce livre écrit en Anglais, est faite en Anglais... alors que c'est fait en Allemand sur Amazon France ("Présentation de l'éditeur : Die größte Sammlung von Steve McCurrys einzigartigen Bildern aus vierzig Jahren Arbeit in einem einzigen Band..."ce qui est dommage et j'espère que ce sera corrigé soit par une traduction française, soit par le texte qu'on peut lire sur Amazon UK : "From the Author : Bonnie McCurry is president of Steve McCurry Studios and director of ImagineAsia, a non-profit organization primarily working in Afghanistan.In an incredibly successful career spanning over 40 years Steve McCurry has created some of the most evocative and best-known images in photography. Les photos sont aussi beaucoup plus nombreuses et en grand format, ce qui se ressent dans le poids de l'ouvrage (2,4 kg). Si vous hésitez, prenez celui-ci.Les photos de McCurry sont magnifiques. Certaines sont très connues et d'autres moins et c'est un plaisir de regarder et de lire cet ouvrage.
McCurry is a great photographer and this book is well made, in hardcover with a nice build. However, this book is not to everyone's liking. McCurry's style is repetitive and many of the images are exactly the same with just different people, and this gets dull real quick. It does not feel worth the money. Full stop. Also some of the writing is unrelated to the images and is a sort of semi-biographical piece. The writing is mostly NOT about the pictures and some of the text is written by others. The strengths of the book are that it covers many of the journalistic areas he worked in (Pakistan, India, US etc) and some of the images he took in each of them. He has some good images here and there, but this is not a book I can recommend though it is better than his smaller hand sized portraits books. You may prefer this and if that's the case just go and buy it.
Being a photographer and having collected many photographic books over the years this one is truly special. In my opinion it is one of the best representations of Steve's career and early life. Being written by his sister, we really get a sense of more than just his photography, but his life and journey to his career today. The quality of the printing is wonderful, the large size displays the images and ephemera beautifully.You won't be disappointed in the book for yourself or as a holiday gift for someone special.
A beautiful book. This was a Christmas gift from my husband as I enjoy photography and travel and it is a lovely book to own. Something I will look enjoy looking at for many years
I’m really at a loss for words to describe this wonderfully compelling book of Steve McCurry’s photographs. The art, craft, technical skill, and spiritual presence of McCurry resounds throughout this volume. The book will occupy an enduring place of honor in my library of photographic works.
The text is thoughtfully written, and compliments the photos brilliantly. The juxtaposition of the photos along with the ephemera, truly creates a great understanding of Steve's work and life. The story of Steve's life is incredible, and it was so interesting hearing it through the words of his sister. I would recommend to any McCurry, photography, or travel enthusiasts.
